Garmin’s long-awaited – and long-delayed – pedal-based power meter finally hit the market in 2013 and you’ll see the pedals on the bikes of Garmin-Sharp riders, including David Millar, this season.
It’s a versatile system, easy to use and setup in our experience, and the pedals can be switched between bikes. The pedals themselves are manufactured by Exustar and are only compatible with LOOK-style cleats, which limits the appeal to riders committed to a different pedal setup.
Garmin Vector is essentially two powers meters, one each housed in the left and right pedals respectively, and that means it can provide specific left-right power readings. Price (£1,350) remains a sticking point, though it’s far from the most expensive system on the market.
Pros: Specific left-right power readings, easy to setup, can be moved between bikes
Cons: Limited to LOOK pedals, expensive
