We’re looking at essentials for your first sportive ahead of the start of the season next month in a series called “be prepared”.
Stashed unobtrusively beneath the saddle, the saddle pack is an item that enables the convenient storage of essential tools and spare tubes that would other take up space in your pockets. Its advantages are three-fold: rides are not ruined by the remorseless prodding of mini-tool against flesh, the sleek lines of your close fitting, aero friendly jersey are preserved, and you’re not forced to repack every last item each time you ride, avoiding the disastrous consequence of tyre levers left on the kitchen table.
Lezyne’s Micro Caddy comes in two sizes: medium and small. We’re testing the medium, large enough for two tubes, a mini tool, and with an internal side pocket perfectly sized for tyre levers.
It’s secured to the saddle rails by two black, neoprene ‘wings’, one either side of the pack, which are united by a velcro patch on the end of each. The design philosophy is to reduce vibration, but we can also see a weight saving advantage over separate, plastic attachment kits. Access to the Micro Caddy comes via a zipped hatch at its rearward edge.
Finished in on-trend white, an elegant match for the decals on our Kinesis UK Granfondo Ti test bike, the pack is branded with the Lezyne logo on the rear and has grey, reflective detailing.
The medium Micro Caddy pack retails at £21.99. The small version sells for £17.99.
