Descending is, supposedly, Team Sky’s weakness – but there was certainly no sign of any difficulties for race leader Chris Froome on the rapid descent of the Col du Manse.
The yellow jersey was happy to stay with the bunch on the way down the twisting, technical descent as Yuri Trofimov (Katusha) soloed to victory in front.
The Russian fearlessly attacked every bend, stretching a lead he had earned over the top of the category-two climb and staying clear for his second career win at the Dauphine – six years after his first.
