Will 2015 be the tipping point in the widespread arrival of disc brakes on road bikes?
The arrival of Shimano’s hydraulic disc brake setup, and the long-awaited return of SRAM’s system, has opened the floodgates and most manufacturers now have a disc-equipped machine in their range.
Including De Rosa. The Italian firm has introduced the Idol Disc, a machine which initially broke cover at last September’s Cycle Show at the NEC in Birmingham, and now unveiled as part of De Rosa’s 2015 range.
We’re in bike launch season, when manufacturers lift the lid on their collections for the forthcoming model year, and the Idol Disc comes hot on the heels of an expanded range of disc-equipped machines in Trek’s Domane range, the Cannondale CAAD10 Disc, the carbon-framed, disc-ready RRD ‘thoroughbred race bike’ from Whyte and the Saracen Avro. We expect to see plenty more machines sporting disc brakes at Eurobike, the world’s biggest bike trade show, in September.
For now, however, let’s take a closer look at the Idol Disc, as well as other highlights in the De Rosa’s 2015 line-up, including the new King XS and the Super King SR.
