Endura Hyperon short sleeve jersey – review

Affordable jersey which outperforms its entry-level price point

Endura’s Hyperon Jersey combines an excellent fabric, relaxed fit and useful features to offer a great jersey which performs reassuringly well for its more affordable £42.99 price point.

We were impressed by Endura’s Hyperon bib shorts, which proved you don’t need to break the bank for top quality kit, and the Hyperon Jersey reiterates that point nicely.

Its subtle stylings downplay the functional abilities hidden beneath the skin of the top – the plain blue jersey is one of four colourways available, with green, red and white versions also available. All four feature a block colour with a black zipper trim and shoulder panels.

Constructed from 100 per cent polyester, the jersey is lightweight and features a stretch mesh panel on the side for added comfort and breathability.

The fit is more casual than the FS-260 jersey, also tested recently, which is pitched higher up the price scale; it is by no means loose, but definitely more cafe than crit.

A word of caution on the sizing though – it’s worth trying before you buy to ensure it isn’t too relaxed. Those of a slighter build may want to drop down a size.

The full-length zipper is spring-loaded, and the thicker teeth feel robust and reassuring in use. A high neck adds sun protection, but is not too tight, and the sleeves are hemmed with an additional silicone print to keep it in place. It is slightly thicker than the new style single elastic finishes, but at this price point is effective, and a means for Endura to keep costs down.

In use, the jersey feels functional and reliable. I loaded the three standard size pockets with a pump, tube, tool, snacks and so on and the jersey pulled down a little, but nothing too drastic.

In addition to those three pockets is an additional zip pocket – handy for valuables – and all the pockets are finished well; stitched firmly with a black fabric finish to reduce wear and tear, and also make them easier to locate while riding.

Conclusion

All in, the Endura Hyperon jersey is totally in keeping with expectations of an entry-level jersey, but feels of a higher level and functions reassuringly well. If you are just starting off with riding – or want an affordable jersey for commuting, the club run or a sportive – then this is good piece of staple kit to invest in.
