Alex Dowsett’s hour record attempt hangs in the balance after the Commonwealth Games time trial champion fractured his collarbone in training.
The Movistar man crashed while training in Essex and was transferred to hospital after complaining of pain in his right shoulder.
Examinations have confirmed a fractured collarbone, for which Dowsett will undergo surgery on Thursday, though Movistar say a decision on the hour record has yet to be made.
Thanks for all the kind messages guys, far from ideal timing but will bounce back asap.

Dowsett was scheduled to take on the attempt at Revolution at the Lee Valley VeloPark, London, on Friday February 27 as part of an evening of entertainment billed ‘The Perfect Hour’.
A media day scheduled at the velodrome for Tuesday January 20 has been cancelled and in a statement issued this morning, Dowsett’s team have said a decision will be taken on whether to postpone the hour record attempt, subject to medical examination and Dowsett’s own consideration, in the next few days.
May even ask the surgeons to take a couple of cm out of the other collarbone as well to make me Tom Dumoulin aero

Dowsett’s attempt was to follow Australian duo Jack Bobridge and Rohan Dennis’ own efforts to set a new mark, with current record holder Matthias Brandle (IAM Cycling)’s distance of 51.852km the target to beat.
