American giants expect new model to be available from May

Garmin have today launched a new flagship bike computer, the Garmin Edge 1000, which combines features from the Edge Touring and Edge 810 with a raft of new developments.

Instant uploads to social media, live tracking and on-the go upload and download of date from Garmin Connect are also among the features of the new computer.

Available to buy from the first week of May, the Edge 1000 will carry an RRP of £439.

The Garmin Edge 1000 can be used to receive incoming calls and text messages alerts, while LiveTrack allows friends and family to follow races and training activities in real time.

Riders can also compete and challenge themselves on Garmin Connect with new segment and leaderboard capabilities, including alerts for upcoming segment starts and their finish points, and Virtual Partner automatic synching with previous best, or the overall segment leader.

The Edge 1000 comes with pre-loaded maps, which include points of interest such as parks and trails, and provides live GPS route tracking and planning.

Garmin have also developed the display, making it fully customisable with performance monitoring, advanced workout/training compatibility and activity profiles.

The screen will be three inches, with the display optimal for gloves and wet days and has an ambient light sensor for riding at night or through shade and tunnels.

It is also compatible with ANT+ sensors, including heart rate, and Garmin’s new speed and cadence sensors.

Billed to be easy to install and self-calibrating, the speed and cadence sensors are designed to allow the user to train at optimal level, with the sensors detachable and easy to transfer between bikes.

The Edge 1000 can also be part with a bundle, which includes the new sensors and HRM3, costing £499.00.
