Geraint Thomas is one of the most versatile riders in the peloton – a team leader at the Classics, a domestique for Chris Froome, Commonwealth Games champion and, increasingly, a stage-race contender in his own right.
The Welshman has also served as an ambassador for the Wiggle Etape Cymru – dubbed the UK’s toughest sportive thanks to an 88-mile route which packs in more than 9,000ft of climbing.
There are few better placed, then, than Thomas, who famously completed the 2013 Tour de France despite fracturing his pelvis on stage one, to offer advice on how to ride faster uphill.
So often a key man for Sky when the roads head skywards, Thomas shared his top tips for climbing with RCUK.
Read on for his advice on technique, pacing, preparation, positioning, nutrition and training.
