Richie Porte, Roman Kreuziger, Rigoberto Uran, Carlos Betancur – the list of recent Giro d’Italia white jersey winners is certainly an impressive one.
Reigning champion Betancur (Ag2r-La Mondiale) will not defend his title this season having opted to target the Tour de France instead, but Rafal Majka (Tinkoff-Saxo) – who pushed the Colombian all the way last time out – is in the running.
Favourite to win the jersey is also favourite for the general classification, Nairo Quintana (Movistar), but even if the other young riders are only competing to wear the jersey, rather than to claim it for their own in Trieste, there is certainly no shortage of big-name candidates in the hunt.
We have run through five of the young riders who could give Quintana a run for his money when the race rolls out of Belfast on Friday (May 9) over the following pages.
