Gran Fondo Bianchi Double Devil ‘extreme’ sportive launches for 2016

121-mile route packs in 12,227 feet of ascent and two of Wales' toughest climbs

Bianchi have launched their first UK-based Gran Fondo, dubbed the Double Devil and touted as an ‘extreme’ sportive. The numbers certainly justify that, with the longest of two route options coming in at 121 miles, with 12,227 feet of climbing – check out the video below to see what’s in store.

The mid-Wales ride will take place on May 29 and features two of the UK’s toughest climbs in the Devil’s Staircase and Devil’s Elbow – which both rear up to 25 per cent. The Gran Fondo Bianchi will also take in some of Wales’ finest scenery as a distraction from the climbing.

At 95 miles and with 9,957 feet of climbing, the ‘short’ route still ranks as one of the UK’s toughest sportives. Both routes start from the Royal Welsh Showground in Llanelwedd, Powys.

As you’d expect, there will be feed stations on the route – stocked with fresh fruit, Welsh cakes, High 5 nutrition products and more – but sportive support vehicles will also carry a supply of hydration products from High 5.There will also be a team of mechanics and a full recovery service if required.

Riders will enjoy a post-event meal back at the Royal Welsh Showground, while a physiotherapy and massage service will also available before and after the ride.

Entry costs £35 and riders can sign-up via the County Cycles website.
