Sir Bradley Wiggins’ record-breaking UCI Hour Record feat means Britain’s first ever Tour de France champion has joined an elite group of legendary riders.

Just six men in cycling’s history have won the yellow jersey and broken the hour record, and none since Wiggins’ childhood hero Miguel Indurain.

The Spaniard, who won the Tour five times between 1991 and 1995, and claimed the hour record in 1994,  was in attendance in London as Wiggins stormed beyond Alex Dowsett’s previous benchmark and into the record books with a distance of 54.526km.

In doing so, Wiggins has re-affirmed his place in British cycle sport legend – adding the hour record to a palmares already boasting the Tour, the world time trial championship, seven Olympic medals (four of which are gold) and multiple other successes on the track and road.

And now he stands among the pantheons of world cycling’s greats, too. Here are the six cycling legends to have won both the Tour de France and claimed the hour record.
