Kinesis Bikes have been busy. Following the launch of a sweep of new bikes at the Cycle Show, including the GF_Disc and 4S Disc, Kinesis have launched a third disc-equipped road bike: the Aithein Disc.
The Aithein, if you’re not familiar, is Kinesis’ lightweight aluminium race bike, launched in 2013 and reviewed on RCUK here. The non-disc frame comes in at a featherweight 1,041g, which makes it one of the lightest aluminium frames out there, but this disc version comes in a little heavier at a claimed 1,300g for a 53cm frame. Still, all in all, it’s no heavyweight.
– Six of the best… lightweight aluminium frames –
While the Aithein is pitched as a race bike, you won’t be able to race the disc-equipped bike just yet, and Kinesis have tweaked the geometry a little, which should give the Aithein Disc slightly more stabled, relaxed handling than the non-disc version.
The Aithein Disc is available in six sizes – from 47cm to 59cm – and, using a 56cm frame as an example, the disc version extends the wheelbase from 998mm to 1005mm, and slackens the headtube angle from 72.75 degrees to 72 degrees.
The Aithein Disc frame, made from Kinesium tubing, also now has clearance for 28mm tyres and all gear cables are run internally, whereas they’re external on the regular Aithein. The front and rear disc housing also runs internally.
