Pinarello unveiled the ‘Wiggo’ edition Dogma F8 at the Tour of Qatar and the custom-painted frame took pride of place on the Italian firm’s stand at the London Bike Show.

While not the exact bike that the 2012 Tour de France champion rode to third in the stage three individual in Qatar, the replica gave us a chance to take a closer look at the intricate paint job, which pays tribute to Wiggins’ long and varied palmares.

The frame has the 34-year-old’s face splashed on the side of the toptube, which also features the Union Jack and world champion’s stripes, with the Tour of Qatar representing Wiggins’ first outing in the rainbow skinsuit since he won the world time trial title in Ponferrada, Spain, last year.

The toptube also lists the landmark wins in Wiggins’ career, starting with the individual pursuit world title on the track in 2003, and finishing with that Ponferrada triumph. Wiggins’ world track titles in Mallorca (2007), Manchester (2008) are also noted, alongside Olympic track titles in Athens (2004) and Beijing (2008), as well as, of course, the Tour de France and Olympic time trial double in 2012.

With that many gold medals to his name, it’s little surprise that gold is the dominant colour across the frame, with the mod roundel that Wiggins has adopted as his motif also painted in gold.

Pinarello’s UK distributor, Yellow Limited, told us only 25 of the frames will be available in the UK, available as a frameset only for the same price as a ‘regular’ Dogma F8, which is £3,899.

Whatever colour it’s painted, the frame remains the same under the skin. The Dogma F8, named so as it is the eighth iteration of Pinarello’s flagship chassis, was introduced in May 2014. The frame was developed in partnership with Jaguar, who advised Pinarello on aerodynamics.
