The London Bike Show has witnessed the first public display on British soil of Wilier’s Twin Foil time trial bike.
The highly-advanced time trial machine whose name derives from its open front end, which allows air to flow between the fork legs and the head tube. The trick is repeated at the rear, where turbulent air is discharged through extra large spacings between the rear wheel and seatstays.
Handlebar position can be tailored to a surprising degree, with two different stem lengths and movement through 47 degrees. The entire tubeset is aero profiled, with a truncated Kam tail design on the seat tube.
The Twin Foil’s emphasis on aerodynamics extends to the mounting of the brake calipers: TRP v-brakes are positioned behind the fork crown and beneath the chainstays at the bottom bracket. The integrated seat binder is another elegant touch and held in place with a detachable bushing that saves discarding the frame for the sake of worn or damaged threads in the binder.
Expect to see it under the Lampre-ISD WorldTour team, and being raced in events closer to home by the Torq-Wilier triathlon team. Torq’s Matt Hart proudly displayed a TwinFoil framest in the team’s distinctive orange and black. Matt told us he will soon receive Fast Forward deep section carbon rims in a matching colour scheme.
