Here’s a bike used to travelling quickly.
As the two wheels of ‘the fastest man on two wheels’, this Pinarello Dogma2 is frequently the first back to its stable after racing in cycling’s elite WorldTour.
The owner? A certain Mark Cavendish, world road race champion, and a relentless competitor who has vowed to ride to Paris in defence of his Tour de France green jersey, leaving himself just six days to recover before attempting to win Olympic gold at London 2012.
Cavendish certainly hasn’t attempted to conceal his ownership of this striking carbon beauty, a machine boasting Pinarello’s ‘asymmetric’ geometry, a full Shimano Dura Ace groupset, and Dura Ace C35 wheels.
Here’s a look at the details that help Cav find his bike among those leaned up against Sky Pro Cycling’s legendary team bus.
Cav’s diminutive stature means his Pinarello Dogma2 is low and sleek. Power to weight ratio, as his rivals will testify, is everything
Here’s a ‘Cav’s eye view’ of the Pinarello Dogma2. Note the PowerControl 7 header unit for his chainset-mounted SRM power meter
The Dogma2 transfers Cav’s power directly to the back wheel
The handlebar stem provides another clue to the owner’s identity. Note the absence of spacers for a totally aerodynamic position
And finally, the view of the Pinarello Dogma2 afforded to most of Cavendish’s sprint rivals
