Weighing just 190g per shoe for a UK size 8.5, the new Huez road model is, according to Mavic, the lightest in its class. That’ll be the very light shoe class, then. It’s an update of the old Huez and confusingly wears the same name as well as coming in the same colour choice of white and yellow.
Black detailing makes a visual difference in case you worry that your latest lightest in class shoes won’t be appreciated; the carbon-fibre-reinforced tabs on the multi-adjustable three Velcro-style straps per shoe bear the label Ergo Strap SL and the 5.5mm thick carbon-fibre sole, lightened by way of holes protected by a mesh infill, goes by the name of Energy Full Carbon SLR. For good measure the Ergo Lite Upper, which does away with stitched seams in favour of bonded panels, is also labelled ErgoRide. In case you were wondering, the composite insoles with elastomer inserts are called ErgoFit SL. Maybe the ErgoRide bit refers to them?
Expect the same shallow sole curvature and comfortable fit over long miles as the old Huez – as well as a bit of a boost when climbing.
UK sizes 4.5 – 12. Price TBC.
