Michelin launch Power ‘high-performance’ tyre range to replace Pro4

Three new tyres aim to reduce rolling resistance, increase grip and improve durability

Michelin have launched the new Power tyre range to replace the existing Pro4 line-up, aiming to reduce rolling resistance, increase grip and improve durability.

The Michelin Power range will go on sale on April 1 and features three distinct models: Power Competition, Power Endurance and Power All Season.

As the names suggest, the Power Competition is the fastest tyre in the range and is designed for road racing, while Power Endurance is for training and long distance riding, and said to be the more durable in the range, and Power All Season is the grippiest tyre and designed for difficult riding conditions.

A fourth tyre, Michelin Power Protection+ will also be launched, but is only going to be available in North America. Michelin say it “provides additional protection for use on the sort of terrain encountered in this part of the world” and we take that to mean gravel roads.

The Power All Season will be the grippiest tyre in the range

Michelin claim the Power range comes with a ten-watt power gain on the Pro4 Service Course (equivalent to one minute and 25 seconds at 35kph over a distance of 40km and a total weight of 70kg), a 20 per cent improvement in puncture protection compared to the excellent Pro4 Endurance and up to 15 per cent more grip when pitted against the Pro4 Grip.

The Power Competition will come in two sizes (23mm and 25mm), both in black, and weighing 195g (a 5g saving on the Pro4 Service Course) and 215g respectively.

Power Endurance is said to be the strongest tyre in the range

The Power Endurance will be available in 23mm, 25mm and 28mm widths, weighing a claimed 220g, 230g and 255g respective, and coming in black, red or blue (black only in 28mm).

Finally, the Power All Season tyre will also come in three widths, weighing 235g, 270g and 295g respectively, and in black only.
