Moda Bikes have added two all-new steel frames to their range.
We brought you news of Moda’s 2013 collection in September, with carbon fibre dominating a thoroughly modern range of machines. The Intimo and Issimo are of a different breed, however.
The key difference between the Intimo and the Issimo is the material from which they are made. The Intimo is made from Reynolds 953 stainless steel, a material both stiff and strong, which means the tube walls can be thinner, reducing the overall weight of the frame. In fact, it’s so light and strong that the Madison-Genesis team will be riding a Reynolds 953 frame in the peloton next season when carbon fibre is otherwise the go-to material.
The Issimo, on the other hand, is made from lower grade, but otherwise still excellent Reynolds 931 tubing. Moda’s James Ryan told us the Derby-designed frames are the result of many hours slaving over the drawing board.
“From the growth we have seen in our titanium bikes we felt it was the right time to incorporate steel into the 2013 line up,” said Ryan. “They had to look current and have a nod to classic bikes but at the same time be based around modern geometries and utilise the strengths and manufacturing techniques that can be achieved using current Reynolds grades.
“We spent along time deciding the best options for Moda’s steel inclusions and after many drawings, samples and hours testing we eventually came up with the Intimo and Issimo.”
The Intimo is priced at £1,999, while the Issimo is available for £500 less at £1,499. Both are available as a frame only, in five sizes from 50cm to 58cm.
