The new Moor2Sea sportive, which starts and finishes at Exeter Racecourse, will be held on Sunday September 8.
Two routes are offered: the 108km ‘Challenge’ route with 7,400ft of climbing, and the 180km ‘Extreme’ route with 12,000ft of climbing, including gradients of up to 25 per cent.
A ‘King of the Mountains’ stage at Mamhead is included on both routes. The event finishes on a two-mile closed circuit on the tarmac track at Exeter Racecourse.
Riders who finish their chosen route within the time for their age category will receive a medal, and a medal pin will be awarded to those finishing the King of the Mountains stage within the given time.
Both routes pass through Haldon Forest, Dartmoor National Park, and Ashburton, before dividing.
The ‘Extreme’ route continues to Ivybridge, and back to Dartmoor to take in climbs including the twenty-five per cent gradient, Hexworthy Hill, before rejoining the ‘Challenge’ route at Ashburton.
From Ashburton, both routes continue along the coastal roads through Shaldon, Teignmouth, and Dawlish before the ‘King of the Mountains’ at Mamhead. A ‘gentle ride’ through Haldon Forest leads to a finish at Exeter Racecourse.
The event will support two military charities: Help For Heroes and DSRT (Ashburton).
