Carlos Betancur (Ag2r-La Mondiale) announced his potential with a strong ride at last year’s Giro d’Italia and the Colombian climbing ace took another huge career step by sealing the first WorldTour race win of his career.
Betancur was the form man, winning two stages on his way to sealing overall victory ahead of world champion Rui Costa (Lampre-Merida) and stage eight winner Arthur Vichot (FDJ.fr).
Betancur continued the early season form which has already brought Tour du Haut-Var success at Paris-Nice.
Whether he can carry the same sort of form into mounting a challenge at Grand Tour level remains to be seen, but for now he can enjoy the moment of the biggest win of his career.
