For Milan-San Remo, Specialized presented Peter Sagan with a custom-painted camouflage Venge. At E3-Harelbeke last Friday, we noticed that Sagan also has a similarly-painted Tarmac ready for his assault on the cobbles.
Sagan is no stranger to custom bikes, having regularly ridden one-off machines during his time with Cannondale, and Specialized have wasted no time in getting in on the act following the Slovak national champion’s move to Tinkoff-Saxo.
Although this year’s E3 certainly wasn’t a repeat of last year’s triumph for Sagan, with the 25-year-old coming home in tenth as part of a group which finished nearly seven minutes down on winner Luca Paolini (Katusha), we took a look at the Slovak national champion’s bike to see how he sets it up for the bergs of Flanders.
While Sagan was riding the Tarmac at E3-Harelbeke, we expect the 25-year-old to swap that for the Specialized Roubaix, which is designed specifically with comfort in mind, for the harsher pavé of Paris-Roubaix, while the (slightly) smoother cobbles of the Tour of Flanders could see Sagan pull any of the three bikes from the mechanics’ truck.
