We recently joined Geraint Thomas, fresh from winning team pursuit gold at the World Championships in Melbourne, for a spin around the Welsh lanes, previewing the course for the Etape Cymru sportive – and we grabbed the opportunity to wheel away the Team Sky rider’s Pinarello Dogma 60.1 for a photo shoot.
The Pinarello 60.1 is Thomas’ training bike, used by the Olympic gold medallist year-round before switching to the Dogma 2 for races.
There’s no mistaking whose bike this is.
Caked in Welsh grit after our ride over the Horseshoe Pass, previewing the Etape Cymru sportive.
Thomas prefers a Pro Vibe 7S handlebar and stem (slammed as low at it’ll go, of course) setup in aluminium, rather than carbon fibre. A Team Sky-issue Kask Vertigo helmet sits ready for deployment.
SRM power cranks are common place in the peloton, although Thomas didn’t have the head unit attached to his ‘bars on our ride.
Shimano Dura-Ace PD-7900 pedals, which have a carbon composite body, provide the platform.
Thomas prefers a Fizik Arione as his perch. Team Sky riders can choose from the Arione, Antares, Aliante and the new Kurve range.

The Etape Cymru is a 90-mile sportive through north Wales, set to take place on closed roads on Sunday September 9. Visit www.etape-cymru.co.uk for more details.
