POC DO Blade Raceday

Fashionable, popular and functional sunglasses from on-fleek brand

POC are one of the hottest brands in cycling, and have been since they first burst onto the road scene in 2012. Well, actually, that’s not strictly true as the Tempor lids the Swedish riders sported in the Olympic time trial never really caught on.

But since then, POC have launched product after product that have been gobbled up by the more fashion conscious roadies out there. And the latest in that line are the Poc DO Blade Raceday sunglasses.

Partnering with Cannondale-Garmin (née Garmin-Sharp) for the last few seasons really threw POC’s innovative and eye-catching designs into the spotlight, and now you can see more than a few people sporting Octal helmets and these – the Blade sunglasses – on many weekend rides.

It’s hard to make such a simple bit of kit as sunglasses stand out, but POC’s DO Blade Raceday sunglasses certainly catch the eye

They’re a little like the cycling Ikea, to use the lazy and obvious comparison. Both are from Sweden, both are fashionable and both have become extremely popular.

Although POC’s products don’t require any construction when they turn up so, arguably, they’re better. On the other hand, POC don’t have huge warehouses full of their products that you can lose an afternoon in – something to definitely consider as the company becomes more popular, we reckon.

The Raceday glasses are a perfect example of POC’s success. First off, they just look different to the sunglasses that almost everyone else is making.

Compare these to, say, Oakley’s Jawbreakers and the simplistic design coupled with the elegant lack of corners and sharp lines is striking.

Similarly, the most unusual colour scheme is the Cannondale-Garmin edition which is green and white, hardly a colourful cornucopia, and it all adds to the strong core look behind the brand.

And it’s not just beautiful form with these, either. Their size means there isn’t a lack of coverage, and although they’re designed to integrate with POC’s own Octal road helmet, the thin arms will give them the biggest chances of fitting into even the narrowest of vents.

It’s hard to make such a simple bit of kit as sunglasses stand out, but POC’s DO Blade Raceday sunglasses certainly catch the eye. And in a good way.
