Polaris Geo Road short sleeve jersey – review

Bold style meets function that performs beyond its price point

The eye-catching Polaris Geo Road Jersey delivers a very on-trend pattern in a great-functioning and well-fitting jersey. Performing above its price point, we found very little to dislike about it.

Pulling on the Geo Road jersey, I was immediately impressed by the fit, which hits that Goldilocks spot of neither too tight nor too loose perfectly. Well-tailored panels and a cut and finish of a good standard no doubt help in that regard, and the fit is ergonomic and comfortable just as much off the bike as on.

The neckline is slightly relaxed to avoid rubbing, but the jersey as a whole – if we had to pick one – probably leans slightly more to a race fit.

The Geo Road takes its name, of course, from the geo pattern and that will no doubt be the only deal breaker for most people. Polar’s style, in this instance, is – well – polarising.

In my opinion though I felt it was the right side of bold, without being overly eye-watering.

The lime green of the sleeves off set the two-tone blue well. You can also buy it in charcoal/grey or black/white. It’s effective and eye-catching, and with reflective panels built into the right shoulder seam and on the rear reverse, it’s visible in low light too.

The jersey pairs CoolDry panels on the sides and regular polyester on the body, and it does an effective job of keeping you cool while riding. It’s also got enough weight to the fabric, however, to pair with a gilet and base layer for autumn days down to around 12 degrees.

At the back, it’s the standard three-pocket set-up. All three are deep but quite narrow to get into – it’s brilliant for keeping things well-secured but, if we’re being picky, the bunched elasticated trim on them makes it fiddly to get in and out with larger hands. A bit more give in the fabric, or a little more width, would have solved it.

Speaking of pockets, there’s also a stealthy zipped pocket with a robust zip. It’s not waterproof or weather resistant, but then as the jersey is built for warmer weather it doesn’t need to be.

Also at the back, a standard-style, grippy finish to the hem does a good job of keeping everything in place, complementing the cut nicely.

A loose collar prevents rubbing, but the jersey leans more towards a race fit otherwise

Sleeve-length is quite long, meanwhile, with flush-fitting grippers on the ends. These have a small silicone beading pattern to grip the skin effectively but allow plenty of flex and movement.

Finally, and a little oddly, on the back is a Polaris logo hook. As it doesn’t rub on the neck it’s useful for hanging the jersey out to dry – whether by design or happy accident, it’s a nice touch. Elsewhere the Polaris logo is present in lime green – large across the back – I’d have liked just the geo pattern, if I was being really picky.

Conclusion

A bold, individual style makes the Polaris Geo Road jersey stand out from the crowd, but there’s more than just eye-catching looks going for it. A nice fit, and a performance that could rival those at a higher pricepoint all makes for a great jersey. There’s little to fault about the Geo Road, but a few improvements on the pockets would up its functionality a little more.
