Prendas winter gloves first look

Prendas winter gloves

Autumn presents a tricky time for road cyclists. The transition from summer to winter can throw up all types of weather and as we’re currently experiencing in the UK, a vast range of temperatures and weather conditions.

This all makes choosing the right pair of gloves difficult. Too chilly for mitts but not really cold enough for winter gloves, it’s time for an intermediate thickness glove. Fortunately those fine purveyors of cycle clothing down in Dorset, Prendas Ciclismo, sent in a couple of interesting gloves fit for the purpose.

First up, the Super Roubaix gloves, made in a fleece-lined material that is very light, soft and, despite its thinness, enough for the current cool weather. There isn’t really much to them, and pulling them on reveals a second-skin style glove. A smattering of silicone gripper dots across the palm and on the index and fore finger are designed to offer a little more traction on the brake levers, while a generous cuff should ensure good overlap with your long sleeve jersey or arm warmers. A large reflective Prendas logo on the top gives a dose of visibility in traffic.

Designed for multi-purpose riding, from track racing to cyclo-cross and road riding, the New Generation Long Finger gloves use a soft mesh upper stitched to a perforated microfiber palm. They’re bulkier than the Super Roubaix’s but do benefit from strategically placed silicone inserts for increased comfort. There’s a short elastic cuff, a large section of towelling along the thumb, and the Prendas logo is smartly incorporated into the palm – a nice touch.

RCUK will be testing both in the following weeks. Full review soon…

Super Roubaix gloves £16.50

New Generation Long Finger gloves £34.95
