Ever watched Bradley Wiggins in a time trial and longed to achieve that flat-backed position?
While most of us will never get close to Wiggo’s ‘table top’ time trial posture, we could perhaps all benefit from being a little more supple.
Jo McRae, coaching columnist on RoadCyclingUK, documented the importance to the cyclist of strength and flexibility in this article.
Now she’s preparing to lead a class in the art of stretching at London’s Le Beau Velo at 7pm on Wednesday October 2.
“If you ride a bike for leisure, and sit at a desk, this targets the key stretches to help you achieve a better and more flexible position on the bike,” says Jo.
The class will include exercises with a foam roller to promote spinal mobilization, and separate stretches that target the muscles around the hips.
Jo will also focus on the iliotibial band, tissue that runs from the hips to the knees, and which can be made short and tight by cycling.
The class is aimed at men aged between 35 and 60, who typically suffer more than women with flexibility issues, according to Jo, and costs £40.
