Great Britain’s track cyclists ruled the Rio Velodrome, topping the medal table and returning with every single one of the British riders to have raced on the Brazilian track having won at least one medal.
Jason Kenny’s three gold medals, replicating Sir Chris Hoy’s achievement in Beijing eight years ago, puts him level with the Scot as Britain’s most successful Olympian.
His fiance, Laura Trott, won her fourth gold earlier on during the final evening – making her Britain’s first ever female Olympian to win four medals, and maintaining an unblemished Olympic record. In two Games, she has competed in four events and won them all.
Ed Clancy is also in the record books, as the first cyclist from any nation to ever win three back-to-back team pursuit gold medals, and the success for the men’s quartet also put Sir Bradley Wiggins top of the British medal charts.
His eighth Olympic medal – five gold, one silver, two bronze – means he has more than any other British athlete in the history of the Olympic Games.
It has been, simply put, another incredible Olympics for Great Britain’s track cyclists – relive all the highlights from the Rio Velodrome in the bumper photo gallery below.
