Santini’s Primo Long Sleeve Thermofleece is a typically stylish winter jersey from the Italian manufacturer.
It’s made in Italy from 100 per cent polyester, which is, soft, luxurious and fleecy on the inside, while, for the most part, the outside has a ribbed effect, with mesh sections on the shoulders and under the arms to aid ventilation.
The material isn’t windproof, so on winter days you’ll want to combine it with a windproof jacket to keep the chill out, or a waterproof shell to stay dry. The Thermofleece is, however, a real looker and the perfect weight to combine with a good base layer and jacket on cold winter rides. This jersey first arrived for test in late October and it provided enough warmth through much of November with just a base layer during what was an unseasonably warm autumn, or with a lightweight jacket when it was a little colder; so expect to be able to use it through the early part of spring, too.
Santini have dispatched with the idea of silicon grippers at the rear to hold a jersey in place, with a thick elastic band doing the same job here and on the cuffs. It’s got ample stretch in it so ensures a firm grip at the rear, while stopping any cold drafts entering under the cuff.
Reflective detailing is included on the band, supported by a logo on the front and rear, and piping on the three generous rear pockets and on the shoulders. Other details includes a lock-down zip with a fairly large toggle bearing the Santini name and which is easy enough to adjust while wearing gloves. As for fit; Santini clothing, like many Italian manufacturers, is on the small side. This has a more forgiving fit, far more relaxed than much of their range but, if like me you often sit between sizes (I’m a medium with most clothing, large in others), it’s worth opting for the larger size. The large tested fits me perfectly.
Four colours are available – royal blue, red, black and yellow – and RRP is £79.99, although you can find it online for significantly cheaper. Find the best price on Mpora Gear.
