SRAM Red eTap to be available with hydraulic disc brakes from October 2016

SRAM announce HydroHC hydraulic disc brakes, compatible with Red eTap groupset

SRAM’s wireless Red eTap groupset will be available with hydraulic disc brakes from October 2016.

Red eTap, which marked SRAM’s long-awaited arrival into the electronic groupset market, was launched in August 2015. While the groupset was initially only available with rim brakes, SRAM have followed up by introducing the HydroHC disc brake platform.

HydroHC will be compatible exclusively with Red eTap derailleurs, and will be available in flat mount and post mount caliper options.

In truth, we knew it was coming after Katusha’s Alexander Kristoff posted an Instagram photo of the groupset on his Canyon Aeroad Disc (so you can probably expect that to be launched some time in the not too distant future) – though the picture was swiftly deleted.

Key features of HydroHC include ‘Contact Point Adjustment’, which allows the rider to fine-tune when the lever engages the brake , as well as improved ergonomics with a smaller diameter hood. SRAM’s ‘Reach Adjust’ tech, a feature of SRAM’s existing HydroR disc brake platform, continues to allow the adjustment of lever position.

The introduction of HydroHC means SRAM will now offer five groupsets with the option of hydraulic disc brakes, with the Red (mechanical), Force CX1, Force 22, Rival 22 and Apex 1 all using the American firm’s HydroR technology.

Full details of HydroHC will be announced in September

More details on SRAM Red eTap HydroHC will announced at the Eurobike trade show on August 31-September 4, when pricing will also be confirmed.
