Strava Live Segments now available on iPhone and Android

See real-time segment progress on your smartphone

Strava have introduced Live Segments for iPhone and Android, allowing premium users to receive real-time smartphone audio cues and visual updates of a current effort on a segment.

Strava Live Segments was first introduced on compatible Garmin computers last year and has now been rolled out on mobile devices.

“Last July, we launched Live Segments for Garmin cycling computers and saw that athletes really enjoyed the feature. We wanted to extend that positive experience to the millions of athletes who use their phone for riding and running,” said Aaron Forth, chief product officer at Strava.

As riders approach a starred segment or a popular segment, the screen will automatically change to Live Segments mode. Riders will see a map of the upcoming segment including a notification bar with segment name and start location. As they get closer to the start of the segment, the notification bar will turn from black to orange.

Once the segment starts, the riders will then be able to see how their current effort is progressing in the centre of the screen, their personal record on the left and the KOM, QOM or course record on the right. After completing the segment, the screen will display the results before returning to the rider’s live stats. If that sounds confusing then take a look at the video above to see how it works.
