Cycling cafés
The intrinsic link between coffee (and cake) and cycling means the rise of the sport in Britain has been accompanied by a boom in two-wheeled café culture.
Cycling cafés are springing up across the country, tailor-made for rider to offer the perfect pre-ride meeting point, mid-ride pit stop or post-ride refreshments.
Some have sprung from existing bike shops, expanding their services from just kit and repairs to a central hub for riders to shoot the breeze.
Others have become a focal point of the community (both cycling and non-cycling) thanks to a strong community presence, appealing to both weekend warriors and weekday regulars.
Many riders will have a favourite café stop and it may be an integral part of the ride – perhaps motivation to get out in the first place, or an opportunity to kick back and reflect on a morning well spent.
We’ve picked ten of our own favourites from London and the south east of England over the following pages.
And while our initial list focuses on the capital and its surrounding counties, we know great cycling cafés are dotted all around the country. Where’s your favourite? Let us know in the comments section below or in the forum.
