Few would disagree that the 2014 Tour of Britain has been among the most memorable.
With constant changes in race leadership, and an unusually high level of success for the breakaway, this eleventh edition of the modern incarnation of Britain’s national tour has been one in which the unexpected came to be expected.
The Milton Keynes squad, Madison Genesis, can perhaps look back on the race with particular pride. Despite pitching a youthful line-up against a peloton packed with established WorldTour talent, Roger Hammond’s six-man selection proved equal to the challenge.
Ian Bibby, Mike Northey, and Tom Stewart, the last of whom played a pivotal role in the race-changing breakaway on stage six, three days after riding clear on the road to The Tumble, all flew the Madison Genesis colours with pride. And the impressive start to the race made by Alex Peters proved again that the 20-year-old Tour of the Reservoir winner has a bright future.
In the last of a series of behind-the-scenes edits, filmmaker, Carly Brown, documents stages six, seven, and eight of the 2014 Tour of Britain, including Stewart’s heroic ride from Bath to Hemel Hempstead, and the crowning split stage, held in the shadow of Big Ben.
