The Tour de France is the biggest annual sporting event in the world with 21 different stages over 23 days. In the 2014 edition of the Tour de France, Yorkshire was host to the Grand Depart which saw over 160 riders set off amongst an incredibly enthusiastic and supportive crowd to ride from Leeds to Maubourguet, Paris.

After a turbulent tour, the Italian Vincenzo Nibal was the overall 2014 winner of the 101st Tour de France. He managed to leave a gap of seven minutes thirty-seven seconds from Jean-Christophe Peraud, the runner up. Vincenzo was comfortably in the lead and wore the Tour de France Yellow Jersey for 19 of the 21 stages. Vincenzo is the sixth rider to win all three Grand Tours, from winning the Vuelta a Espana in 2010, Giro d'ltalia in 2013 and the Tour de France 2014.
