Chris Froome celebrates third Tour de France win on the Champs-Elysees

The champagne flowed for Team Sky as Chris Froome celebrated his third Tour de France triumph – and the team’s fourth in the last five years – on the Champs-Elysees in Paris.

Froome completed a near-perfect three weeks of racing by arriving safely into Paris to cross the finish line arm-in-arm with his Team Sky team-mates – who for the second year running were donning special Rapha jerseys with a generous splash of yellow for the occasion.

Froome was one of two Brits on the Paris podium, with 23-year-old Adam Yates also sealing the white jersey of best young rider – the first Brit ever to do so.

Alongside thanking his team-mates and support staff, and dedicating the win to his son Kellan, Froome also paid tribute to the victims of the terror attack in Nice in his podium speech.

The 31-year-old said: “This tour has obviously taken place against the backdrop of terrible events in Nice, and we pay our respects once again to those who have lost their lives in this terrible event.

“Of course these kind of events put sport into perspective, but they also show why the values of sport are so important to free society.

“We all love the Tour de France because it’s unpredictable, but we love the Tour more for what stays the same. The passion of the fans from every nation along the roadside, the beauty of the French countryside, and the bonds of friendship created through sport. These things will never change.

“Vive Le Tour, et Vive La France!”
