Cyclo-cross riders are still somewhat split between cantilever and disc brakes, but favour is beginning to fall towards discs and that’s reflected in Trek’s new range – with the Crockett exclusively available in disc builds and only one cantilever-equipped machine in the Boone range, though both will be available as a frame only in disc and cantilever versions.

The Boone and Crockett disc frames use a thru-axle at the front as Trek say this allows for “more precise steering and confident braking while reducing weight and eliminating flex.”

Otherwise the Boone range includes the Boone 7 Disc with SRAM Force CX1 and hydraulic disc brakes for £3,150, while the canti Boone 7 also gets SRAM Force CX1 (UK price TBC) and the Boone 5 Disc opens the 2016 range with Shimano 105 and hydraulic disc brakes (UK price TBC).

The Crockett’s two disc builds, the Crockett 7 Disc and Crockett 5 Disc, come with SRAM Force CX1 and Shimano 105, both with hydro discs, for £2,100 and £1,350 respectively.

If you want to put together your own build then the Boone frameset will cost you back £1,500, regardless of whether you get the disc or cantilever version, and the Crockett costs £550, again with both disc and canti options.
