Right in time for winter, Zwift’s online world has expanded with the launch of a new Mayan course extension on Watopia Island.
The Mayan expansion includes several miles of ‘fast, rolling terrain through a fantastical world of ancient Mexico’ according to Zwift. Even if the temperature is dropping outside, the virtual jungle landscape should provide some respite for riders looking for quality training miles on the indoor trainer.
The Mayan area offers three routes:
The latest addition to the interactive training platform will be available to Zwift users who have reached level ten or higher – the first time one of Zwift’s in-game areas has to be unlocked (the ‘jungle gate’ is marked red when locked and green when available).
Users move through levels by earning points based on the number of miles or kilometres they have ridden. Points are also awarded for power-ups and for completing a KOM or sprint section.
Less experienced Zwift users can also access the area by riding with a friend who has level ten status or higher, while official Zwift events taking place in the Mayan area will be open to all rider levels.
Watopia Island is one of three maps available on Zwift, alongside a virtual recreation of London and the 2016 UCI Road World Championship course in Richmond, Virginia.
