Stage 16, finishing in Bern, was supposed to be Fabian Cancellara country but Peter Sagan stole the show on the road and his fans stole the show off it.

Sagan’s third stage win of the 2016 Tour de France, which all-but seals the green jersey, arrived in front of a mass of travelling fans from Slovakia as he continued his fine season as world champion.

The rainbow bands have had to take a back seat during the Tour, however, with the Tinkoff man first swapping them for the maillot jaune and then continuing his domination of the points classification.

As the Tour de France goes into its second and final rest day, in Bern, there is still much to play for but Sagan is well set for his fifth consecutive points classification win.
