Greg van Avermaet boasts a five-minute lead overall at the 2016 Tour de France after a solo victory on stage five saw him claim the yellow jersey.
How long the Belgian Tirreno-Adriatico champion can maintain that advantage remains to be seen, but with stage six one for the sprinters, he should at least carry it to the Pyrenees.
Van Avermaet proved strongest from what was initially a nine-man break, with he and fellow Belgian Thomas de Gendt – who will take over the polka dot jersey after his exploits – jumping clear of their companions.
