Marcel Kittel (Etixx-QuickStep) sprinted to his first victory of the 2016 Tour de France, edging out Bryan Coquard by the narrowest of margins to win stage four.
Another long, flat stage with a sprint finish expected, the stage was played out at a faster pace than the day before, but the sprinters would not be denied another shoot-out.
And Kittel emerged victorious – though it took a photo finish to show he was no more than the thickness of his tyre wall ahead of Coquard at the finish line.
